Radiance Review

Radiance

by Grace Draven

"THE PRINCE OF NO VALUE

Brishen Khaskem, prince of the Kai, has lived content as the nonessential spare heir to a throne secured many times over. A trade and political alliance between the human kingdom of Gaur and the Kai kingdom of Bast-Haradis requires that he marry a Gauri woman to seal the treaty. Always a dutiful son, Brishen agrees to the marriage and discovers his bride is as ugly as he expected and more beautiful than he could have imagined.

THE NOBLEWOMAN OF NO IMPORTANCE

Ildiko, niece of the Gauri king, has always known her only worth to the royal family lay in a strategic marriage. Resigned to her fate, she is horrified to learn that her intended groom isn’t just a foreign aristocrat but the younger prince of a people neither familiar nor human. Bound to her new husband, Ildiko will leave behind all she’s known to embrace a man shrouded in darkness but with a soul forged by light.

Two people brought together by the trappings of duty and politics will discover they are destined for each other, even as the powers of a hostile kingdom scheme to tear them apart."

I accidentally deleted the entire review I had written. I'm going to try an remember it. I thought Radiance was very well written. I greatly appreciated the different approach that was taken in the arranged marriage between Brishen and Ildiko. There was no anger or hatred for the other. Actually, they took it rather wall and saw the best in their situation. They built up trust and eased their way into a good friendship. I even found their "insults" very cute.

Spoilers below: The one thing that did irritate me was that as soon as Brishen and Ildiko discovered the depth of their feelings, they started doing it like rabbits. It made me see them almost as teenagers who couldn't control themselves.
End spoilers

I liked the book very much and wouldn't turn aside reading another involving Brishen and Ildiko.

What to Look Forward To!

What is my current project? Well, actually I am working on three projects, but one alone holds the highest importance over the others. What would that be, you might ask? Well, the long awaited third installment of the Chronicles of Midgard series! Join Maeja and crew as they seek to gain Odin's spear, Gungnir, before the Empire. More attacks by Hel's army of walking corpses and the full awakening of the Valkyrie! While the release date is currently undetermined, I'm aiming hopefully for a winter release, pending the editing process. Keep an eye out for the official release date.
So, wonder what else is in the works? Well I can say there are two stand alone books currently being worked on. One is a short story based off the Brothers Grimm fairytale of Snow White--except with a dragon. On the night in which Neve was born, a great white dragon was seen in the sky, an ill omen to be sure. However, even after the death of her mother and her father's later remarriage, Neve lives a life with a loving family--until everything changes. Keep an eye out for Winterspell, coming soon!
As for my other work in progress, we have gnomish thief Esla. Based of a D&D character I played, Esla is caught red-handed--except that the treasure she was to steal has already been stolen. Betrayed by her master, Esla is offered the chance to redeem herself by stealing back what was stolen. Her journey, however, takes a twist as a sinister evil arises that she cannot ignore. Fall into an adventure filled with both humor and danger in Rogue's Dance!
